About the Project
The premise is simple. Three professional* artists meet and are each given a blank page and 100 seconds (1:40). They use the artistic medium of their choice to bring one of two concepts, an emotion or an animal, to life. While one artist creates, the other two attempt to guess what is being created. The fastest/ most accurate guesser is deemed the winner of the "game" and is awarded their choice of the 3 completed works. The second completed work is randomly given to the community, and the third is auctioned to support the community.
Portfolio
A collection of artwork created during each show.
About Ten Words a Second
"Ah... he's screwed it up!"
How many of us have muttered this very sentence to ourselves when watching an episode of The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. He'll have just created a beautiful landscape and without hesitation or warning, take a pallet knife and drag a jagged black mar front and center. You can't change the channel. You cant look away. In that moment there is no greater desire other than to understand what order is to be made of such a chaotic act.
Within seconds, you see it... that mar transforms into a tree trunk as the branches and foliage are added, coming into the world as if always meant to be there. In a short amount of time we are taken on a satisfying journey from nothing, to chaos, to beauty.
That brief moment in time is what Ten Words a Second is all about. It illustrates an artist's ability to create something out of nothing.
As viewers, we get to delight in watching the creative process unfold before us.
As artists, the project is intended as a vehicle to bring individual style to a greater audience.
